Gratitud is probably the most personal piece in the Meninas collection.
The crochet flowers were handmade by my aunts — the same women whose story inspired Meninas. I then stitched each flower onto the sweater myself, so from the beginning, this piece carried something very personal from my family.
While I was creating it, I lost one of my aunts. Finishing the sweater became part of how I processed that loss, and the meaning of the piece changed completely for me.
I called it Gratitud because that is what I feel when I look at it: gratitude for my aunts, for my mother, for the women who raised us, and for everything they have passed down to me.
It is more than a sweater. It holds a small part of my family.
Love ,
Martica
