Meninas is a collection about my family.
It is inspired by the story of my mother and her four sisters. After losing their mother when they were still very young, the two eldest, only 17 and 18, took on the responsibility of helping care for the younger girls. Together, the five sisters left their rural home and moved to the city, carrying with them their bond, their strength, and everything they had learned from one another.
I wanted this collection to tell their story through my own language. The checks reference where they came from, the flowers represent the five sisters growing in different ways, and the bows speak to the lazo that has always kept them connected.
Meninas is my way of honoring the women I come from — their resilience, their love, and the family they built together.
