The Wellness Chronicles

Skincare

The dreaded date is coming up, yes THAT date… March 2021 marks a year; one spring, one summer, one autumn and a VERY long winter in which many of us started some form of self-isolation; quarantine, lockdown, seclusion, you name it! It’s been a year of ups and downs, highs and lows, ins and outs. I’m marking this infamous anniversary by making a self-care commitment to myself: never have I felt more need than in these last 12 months to understand and value the importance of self-care for my overall wellness.

I cannot begin to explain the joy that putting stuff in my face brings me. Yes pleaseeee feel free to judge; I am a self-confessed full-blown beauty Junkie.  I’m not sure exactly when or where this obsession began, but I do recall watching my mother do her skincare routine since I was a little girl. All those little beautiful jars, delicately placed in her dresser, that smelled better than my Strawberry Shortcake Doll and resembled magic potions and exciting ointments. Watching her run a cotton bud slowly through her soft skin mesmerized me. I’m now the same age she was when I was that little girl that could not take her eyes away from her mother. I now understand that it was the overflow of pleasing energy she was irradiating that hypnotized me during those minutes she was investing in herself. I can relate, those minutes belonged to her and only her.

So why is skin care so important? Because it’s an opportunity to notice changes within yourself. The goal of any skincare routine is to tune up your complexion, so it works at its best. The science behind skincare has come a long way, but remember there's is no such thing as an instant fix. Skincare is a relationship you build up over time and results are only seen with patience and through consistent use.

Step 1. Build up a skincare routine and remember the four magic words; Cleanse, Tone, Treat, Hydrate.

Step 2.  Always cleanse every morning and before going to bed. Not cleansing properly could potentially contribute to breakouts, dehydration and ageing.

Step 3. Never leave your house without SPF, sunlight is the number one cause of skin aging.

Step 4. Remember skincare is not a vanity affair, it’s self-care.
